The university district – a particular hit with students!
There’s one area of Graz where you’re bound to encounter plenty of students: the university district. Even if you live in another part of the city, you’ll be a regular visitor to this quarter – namely when you’re heading to the university. In the summer months, it can feel like a bit of a ghost town here, but while the semester is in full swing, students quite clearly stake their claim to the university district.
Whether you’re looking for a bite to eat, want to take a break, enjoy a cup of coffee, do some group work, catch a few rays, go to the hairdressers, get your hands on some books or enjoy a drink at the student union after a long day of studying – it’s all possible in the university district!
The Lend district: creative and alternative
The university district isn’t the only place you’ll find lots of students romping about. Whether you’re in the mood to sit down and enjoy a meal or are looking to have a good time, want to take a shopping trip or simply fancy trying out some alternative activities in your free time: the Lend district is the perfect place for you. It’s not just famous for its farmers’ market - Lend is also seen as the city’s creative district.
From Hauptplatz, all you need to do is cross the Mur once and before you know it you’ll be in the Lend district. First of all, you’ll see the striking Kunsthaus with its café, walk past a series of small design and craft shops, maybe wander through an outdoor photo exhibition at Mariahilferplatz, take a look inside a few small pubs or co-working spaces on the way to Lendplatz and then play a game of table tennis in the Volksgarten. Or maybe you’ve already stopped off to enjoy a refreshing cold drink at Lendplatz?
